Dr. Barlas grew up in Canton, MI.  She completed her Bachelor of Science at Michigan State University Lyman Briggs College and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine.  Her professional interests include dermatology and allergy management, preventative medicine beyond the antiparasitic monthlies, and forming strong veterinarian-patient-client relationships. Client education, methodically detailed individualized case management, and patient comfort are at the core of her practice style.  Most of her work is performed on the floor at the patient’s level, and she explains diagnostics, diagnoses, and treatments clearly in imaginative ways.

Dr. Barlas is known for her passion of animal welfare education having given guest lectures on the subject at both MSU and ISU.  She welcomes quality of life consultations, integrative medicine plans, and execution of surgical options.  She works collaboratively with a vast community of colleagues around the world discussing cases.  Her mission: provide profound education before life, supply exceptional veterinary care during life, and assist in humane passing at end of life.  She accomplishes this mission through her hospital's mission of A Whole Health Approach: Whole Care | Whole Patient | Whole Life.  Dr. Barlas looks forward to being a lifelong member of your pet’s health care team!

Veterinary Technical Assistant Lead

Amy joined HCVS just before its first birthday!  After 15 years with Detroit EMS, she completed her Veterinary Assistant (VA) certification through Ross Medical Education.  Maintaining her VA with regular continuing education, Amy has over a decade in the field!  She joins Dr. Barlas in both appointments and surgery.  Many also welcome her for on-going care treatments.
