HCVS Full-Service Euthanasia requests can be made using the form below.
Services to say good-bye are performed in the security and comfort of a pet's home. Dr. Sarahbeth Barlas, DVM will visit in civilian clothing for the comfort of pets. Anyone owners approve to be present may share in this time; each individual may choose to stay for a portion or entirety of the event.
What to expect for an in-home euthanasia experience described below:
Upon arriving at location, we take some time to answer any questions. This gives pets time to become acquainted with Dr. Barlas's voice and presence. Quiet clippers may be used to remove a bit of fur on a limb to facilitate vein access and place an intravenous catheter. When everyone is ready, Dr. Barlas gives sedation through the catheter, which provides a pain relieving and peaceful sleep. Sometimes, this sedation is given prior to a catheter if the pet shows this may be beneficial to them. Then, when ready, an injection to say good-bye is given through the catheter or under the arm, and Dr. Barlas ensures passing is complete. At this time, Dr. Barlas will remove any catheter, place a small bandage, and quietly excuse herself giving privacy when all are ready. Dr. Barlas will also assist with aftercare for those families that do not request otherwise.
Aftercare is offered through Faithful Companion -Troy. They are a local, family-owned company that offers cremation, keepsake, and memorial options including claw paw prints. Faithful Companion welcomes families who wish to tour the facility or witness their pet's cremation. Aftercare payments are made directly to HCVS at time of booking, so all finished before Dr. Barlas arrives.
Families may also elect to bury remains on their property as allowed by local laws. Please understand that euthanasia solution must be accounted during burial, meaning remains must be laid away from water sources and at appropriate depths to protect environment and wildlife.
No cremains are returned to the family. Cremains are buried at Whispering Pines Pet Cemetery (Ypsilanti, MI). Each burial plot is denoted as Faithful Companion Communal Cremations with respective dates.
Cremains are returned to the family the next day in a rose-mahogany Wooden Urn with golden clasp, which includes an engraving if desired.
Cremains are returned to the family the next day in an Engraved Cultured Marble Urn. Families can choose a white, tan (pictured), or black urn, which includes an engraving if desired.
